StanCraft Opens a Kalispell Office, Ninety-Three Years After Starting on Flathead Lake

StanCraft began building wooden boats in Lakeside, Montana in 1933. A new office on Main Street in Kalispell brings the company, and its construction division, back to where it started.

StanCraft started in 1933 on the shores of Flathead Lake, in Lakeside, Montana, building wooden boats. The boat shop later moved to North Idaho, the family of companies grew to include construction, marine construction, aviation, land development and manufacturing, and Montana became a place the company visited rather than a place it worked from.

That changed in August 2026, when StanCraft opened an office on Main Street in Kalispell.

NBC Montana covered the opening. Josh Horvath, president of StanCraft Construction, told the station: "I think it's great that we're able to bring this full circle, bring the boats back here, and have our construction division follow it as well." On the choice of a storefront rather than an office park, he added: "Being on Main Street and being engulfed in the community here is great because you see people walk by all day, they look in the windows, they want to come in."

What the Kalispell office means for building in the Flathead

An office is not a marketing gesture. It is subcontractor relationships, permit familiarity, and someone who can be on a site the same morning a question comes up. StanCraft Construction Group now runs Flathead Valley work out of 141 Main Street in Kalispell, covering Kalispell, Whitefish, Columbia Falls, Bigfork, Lakeside, Somers and Evergreen.

The work is the same work we do in Idaho: custom homes, commercial buildings, healthcare, hospitality and pre-engineered structures, delivered as construction management, design-build or general contracting.

Why the lake matters to how we build

Ninety-three years of building boats teaches a specific kind of discipline. A hull has no forgiving joints. Water finds every mistake, and it finds them slowly, over decades. Waterfront houses behave the same way. Flashing details, deck substrates, dock connections and drainage are the things that decide whether a lake house looks good in year twenty or looks tired in year six.

Building on Flathead Lake is not a new market for this company. It is the original one.
